The snapper is the larger species of the family Sparidae and reaches 1 meter length. Its color is blue-silver on the back and silvery abdomen with 4-5 darker streaks. The side has small blue spots that lose their color after death. Abdominal have a pink tint. Snappers up to 1 meter have a deep red color. In both jaws has 4-6 well developed teeth. Lives in rocky substrates from 10-200 meters deep, usually in shallow-water reefs 50 meters where he breeds and grows. In winter immersed in deep water, and spring is approaching the coast. It is located from southern Ireland and England, across the Mediterranean and up the west coast of Africa. It feeds on fish, molluscs and cephalopods.

Is Hunter. Its meat is sought after and is caught with trawls, longlines, bolts bottom and snorkeling. Sold fresh or frozen, with price quite good. The species most cultivated in intensive crops.
